In May 2016 with the financial support of Wickersley WI an external defibrillator was installed at The Tanyard in Wickersley. Little did we know that it was about to play a key role in saving the life of a local lady within weeks of installation.
There is always an element of luck in any situation and it was certainly in evidence that day. The lady in question had been attending a family celebration and had agreed to be the driver that day. Within minutes of driving to the exit of the Tanyard car park she collapsed.
The young couple in the car behind realised that something was wrong and dialled 999. On being given the Safe Cabinet code they raced to bring the defib to her aid. The luck doesn’t end there – a visiting Doctor just happened to be in the vicinity and together with CPR and shocks from the defib the lady was kept alive until the paramedics and ambulance arrived.
Happy to say this lady made a full recovery and we were privileged to have an emotional meeting with her some time later.
