George’s Story
On Saturday 29th March this year we met a man who was saved by 3 miracles at The Lord Reresby in Thrybergh.
Months earlier George had been reluctant to go with his family to the local pub and instead relaxed at home in front of the tv. At the same time Kevin was at home watching his beloved Ireland play International Rugby.
Miracle 1 – George felt guilty so decided to join the family outing after all.
Miracle 2 – Kevin became bored with the Rugby and strolled along to the pub to drown his sorrows.
Miracle 3 – Landlord Tom at The Lord Reresby had fund-raised for a defibrillator and with the help of Start-a-Heart 24:7 had installed the external life-saver mid-2024.
We’ve all heard the saying ‘When all the stars align’ well on that evening they did.
Shortly after arriving at the pub George collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. Kevin and friend Adam sprang into action and calmly administered CPR and a 999 call ensured that the defibrillator was accessed and the emergency services were on their way. The Paramedics praised everyone for their efforts and said that without prompt action, the CPR and use of the defib George would most certainly have died.
The photos show a very happy George together with Start a Heart’s Trish, Carrie and Roger on the evening when the community raised over £4000 to help the charity with their work. The charity will be installing 2 more units in Thrybergh in 2025 to support local people in an emergency.
