We enjoy a challenge, so in 2019 we applied to British Telecom to ’Adopt’ the dilapidated phone box on Moorgate Road, We were turned down due to an objection but undeterred reapplied in 2021.
Success! But that was only the beginning. So during Covid and freezing cold weather we started the job of converting a wreck to the life -saving facility serving the Community today. We had purchased the phone box for £1 but then spent over £1,000 on the refurbishment.
British Telecom laid down strict criteria for the refurb, including the use of precise paint colours. Local residents and TRC students were keenly interested in our progress, particularly when we used the stipulated pink undercoat. Must admit we had quite a bit of fun with that.
After 3 months of hard, but enjoyable, work the installation was ready to install the safe cabinet and defibrillator and has since been accessed many times.
